WWE has issued the following press release announcing that Asuka will no longer be competing on tonight's Monday Night Raw due to a wrist injury. The Empress was set to face former NXT women's champion Shayna Baszler in a highly anticipated singles-bout. Kairi Sane, who holds the WWE women's tag team titles with Asuka, will take her place against Baszler.
Kairi Sane to face Shayna Baszler in place of Asuka tonight on Raw
Due to a sprained wrist, WWE Women's Tag Team Champion Asuka is not medically cleared to compete tonight on Monday Night Raw.
Facing Shayna Baszler in The Empress of Tomorrow's place will be her tag team partner, Kairi Sane.
Sane and Baszler have quite a history in WWE. The Kabuki Warrior defeated the MMA Horsewoman to win the first ever Mae Young Classic tournament back in 2017, then dethroned her as NXT women's champion at NXT Takeover Brooklyn IV. Baszler would win the gold back from Sane at the all-women's Evolution pay per view before successfully defending it in a rematch at Takeover WarGames II.
As for Asuka, she's currently still scheduled to compete at this Sunday's Elimination Chamber pay per view, where the winner receives a Raw women's title shot against Becky Lynch at WrestleMania 36.
Tonight's Monday Night Raw is from the Barclay's Center in Brooklyn, New York.
