David Benoit was interviewed by Chris Van Vliet this week. During the interview, the son of the late Chris Benoit discussed his bond with Chris Jericho, who he considers to be both a mentor and a friend.

Jericho has been helping Benoit out in his young wrestling career. Benoit recalled Jericho once cancelling one of his matches. Benoit was scheduled to team with Chavo Guerrero Jr., but Jericho stepped in and prevented the match from happening because he didn't feel that Benoit was ready yet.

"Our match got canceled," Benoit said, via WrestlingINC.com. "Jericho didn't think I had enough experience to do this match. He was looking out for me, so I appreciate that."

Benoit continues to prepare to eventually sign with one of the major wrestling companies. While his father achieved his greatest fame in WWE, the younger Benoit has other plans.

"AEW or New Japan Pro Wrestling would be the goal," Benoit stated. "I tried getting in there (to NJPW). It was so hard to get in there."
