The numbers are in for the January 8, 2020 episode of AEW Dynamite, and it is a mixed bag in terms of the good news / bad news game.
The 1/8 episode of AEW Dynamite, which was dubbed the "Anniversary Edition" of the weekly All Elite Wrestling television series featuring the advertised "Tribute to Memphis Wrestling Legends," finished with 947,000 total viewers, according to Showbuzz Daily.
By comparison, last week's "Homecoming Edition" of AEW Dynamite from Daily's Place in Jacksonville, Florida drew 967,000 viewers, marking a 20,000 viewer decrease for this week's show, which emanated from the Landers Center in Southaven, Mississippi.
The good news, however, is that the show crushed their direct, head-to-head competition in a landslide, as AEW Dynamite finishing at 947,000 viewers for this week's show easily topped the 721,000 viewers who tuned into the competition from WWE's weekly NXT On USA show from Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida.
This marked the first actual live, two-hour head-to-head showdown between AEW Dynamite and NXT On USA of the New Year in 2020, as last week's show on 1/1 featured no live competition from WWE's black-and-gold brand, as the 1/1 episode of NXT On USA was the special "2019 NXT Year-End Awards Show."
In the coveted 18-to-49 year-old demographic, AEW also won in a landslide by securing a 0.36 rating to NXT's 0.19.
By comparison, last week AEW Dynamite drew 967,000 viewers and the same 0.36 rating in the 18 y/o demo, while the NXT 2019 Year-End Awards Show last week drew 548,000 viewers and a 0.15 rating in the 18 y/o demo.
